US SONET INTERNET HELP - Configuring your TCP/IP

Windows 95/98/ME Users

1. Begin by clicking on Start and go to Settings and then Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel, click on      Network.

3. In Network Properties window, left click on TCP/IP > Fast Ethernet Adapter and not TCP/IP Dial-up Adapter, and then left click on Properties. If you need to install TCP/IP, follow these steps:

    • press the Add... button
    • double-click Protocol
    • select Microsoft
    • select TCP/IP
    • click on OK
    • click on OK again

At this point you should be   prompted to restart the computer. If   so, click "Yes" to restart; otherwise, select "Start," "Shutdown," "Restart," and "OK."

4. Configure the tabbed pages as follows:

  • IP Address: Select the Obtain an IP address automatically option.
  • WINS Configuration: Select the Disable WINS Resolution option.

 

  • Bindings: No changes are needed from the default.

 

  • Advanced: No changes are needed from the default.

 

  • DNS Configuration: Select the "Enable DNS" option. (DNS stands for Domain Name Service.)

 

  • Enter a name for your computer in the Host box.

 

  • In Domain enter: ussonet.net

 

  • In the DNS Server Search Order section, enter: 65.114.92.254 and press the Add button.

 

  • Then, enter: 65.124.239.5 and press the Add button.
  • In the Domain Suffix Search Order section, type: ussonet.net and press the Add button.
  • NetBIOS: If you have this file tab, no change from the default is necessary.

When you are all done setting these options, press the OK button. Then press the OK button in the Network dialog box. Windows 95/98 will ask you to reboot. Press Yes. Try to get on-line by clicking on your Internet browser, and if you still are having trouble give one of our technicians a call. 

 

 

 

 

Windows XP/2000 Users

1. Begin by clicking on start and go to    the Control Panel.

2. In the Control Panel, click on     Internet and Network     Connections and then click on     Network Connections.

3. Right Click on Local Area     Connection and then left on     Properties.

4. In Local Area Connection     Properties, left click on TCP/IP     and then click on Properties. If     you need to install TCP/IP, follow     these steps:

    • press the Add... button
    • double-click Protocol
    • select Microsoft
    • select TCP/IP
    • click on OK
    • click on OK again

    At this point you should be     prompted to restart the computer. If     so, click "Yes" to restart; otherwise,     select "Start," "Shutdown,"    "Restart," and "OK."

5. Under Internet (TCP/IP     Protocol) Properties - Select the     "Obtain an IP address automatically."     Change "Obtain a DNS server     address automatically" to "Use the     following DNS server addresses".

6.  In the Preferred DNS Server text      field, enter: 65.114.92.254 and in      the Alternate DNS Server text field,      enter: 65.124.239.5

7. Press "OK" button and then press    "OK" button on the Internet    (TCP/IP  Protocol) Properties.    Close out of the Control Panel.
