Q:  Will I really notice a difference in my online speed?

A:  Yes!  Typical speed for dial-up Internet access is 48K to 56K.  US SONET’s fiber optic Internet access speeds begin at 768K.  Pages load in just a few seconds, even sites with lots of graphics, Flash animations, etc.  And downloading huge files that used to take all night take just seconds as well.

Q:  I can get high-speed Internet from my cable or telephone company.  What makes yours better?

A:  Several things.  First, cable Internet speeds vary, depending on how many other people are using the Internet at a given time.  US SONET’s speeds are constant, as you are not sharing your bandwidth with others.  Also, while other companies may offer 768K or 2Mbps speeds, those numbers only reflect the download speeds.  Their upload speeds are only around 128K or 256K.  The resulting lag is especially noticeable during online gaming, chatting, and other interactive activities.  US SONET is the only company offering 768K, 1.5Mbps, and 2Mbps speeds for both upload and download.

Q:  How can I get more bandwidth?

A:  Our basic speed is 768K both directions.  You can receive a full symmetrical T1 for an extra $20.00 per month, or you can get 2Mbps at no extra charge if you order all three of our services.  Just call our office at 548-6909 to upgrade.

Q:  My current Internet connection is on a separate phone line.  Should I keep this second line?

A:  No.  Our Internet service runs on a separate connection.  Instead of using a telephone line, our service connects to your computer via a network (Ethernet) line.

Q:  Where do I connect the network line to my computer?

A:  The line plugs into the network card jack on the back of your computer.

Q:  Does my computer have a network card?

A:  Look at the back of your computer.  The network jack looks like a telephone jack, only it’s a little wider.

Q:  If I don’t have a network card, what do I do?

A:  US SONET can supply you with one.  The first card is included in the standard installation price.  Additional cards can be purchased for $50.00.  US SONET can even install it for you at an extra charge.

Q:  Does my Internet usage count against any of my phone minutes?

A:  No.  Your Internet service is totally separate from your telephone service, and the monthly fee gives you unlimited Internet access.

Q:  Who will be my Internet provider?

A:  US SONET.

Q:  I’m currently on AOL.  Can I still use their services?

A:  With US SONET’s fiber Internet service, you will have access to anything you have access to now.

Q:  Will I have to change e-mail addresses?

A:  This depends on who your current e-mail provider is.  Web-based e-mail accounts like Hotmail, Yahoo, etc. are accessible no matter how you’re connected to the Internet.  But if you have an e-mail account through your current Internet Service Provider, you will no longer be able to use it once you’ve cancelled their service.  US SONET provides you with up to four e-mail accounts, which you can access either through our website or by e-mail programs like Outlook Express.

Q:  Is there an extra charge if I have more than one computer I want to connect to the Internet?

A:  There is no extra monthly charge for additional computers.      A simple network hub can be used to send the Internet access to multiple computers.  Each computer will need a network card, and additional cards are available from US SONET for $50.00 each.
